How To Create Custom Shortcut Icons in iOS, Without Jailbreaking

One of the many benefits of jailbreaking was the ability to have shortcuts, allowing for easy to access to commonly used settings on your iPhone. href="http://www.idownloadblog.com/2011/11/11/how-to-create-custom-shortcuts-to-wifi-settings-airplane-mode-and-more-no-jailbreak-required/">iDownloadblog informs of a new app titled href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/icon-project-home-screen-icon/id434277910?mt=8">Icon Project available in the App Store that allows you to create shortcut icons and it does not require any jailbreaking. The custom shortcuts are created by using shortcode in a URL that will open the preferred setting. Below is a quick video tutorial on the process and included are the shortcuts needed to make this magic happen.

Apple releases iTunes 10.5.1, launches iTunes Match in the US

Apple releases iTunes 10.5.1, launches iTunes Match in the US

Apple has released iTunes 10.5.1 and along with it, their paid music locker service in the U.S., iTunes Match. Coming after several extended betas, and past the previously announced October time frame, iTunes Match costs 24.99 a year and allows users to scan their iTunes libraries and either gain access to matching, 256kbps tracks from the iTunes Catalog, or upload their own, off-catalog tracks for access from any iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or iTunes client on Mac or Windows.

Introducing iTunes Match. Store your entire music library in iCloud, including music you’ve imported from CDs, and enjoy your collection anywhere, anytime, on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, computer, or Apple TV.

So if you’ve been eagerly waiting to get your music to the cloud, hit software update or download directly via the link below. Then come back here and tell us what you think. Did Apple get it right?

UPDATE: iTunes Match is still saying it’s in beta, which means your libraries are subject to deletion, with (or perhaps without) notice up to and until it goes into general availability. Users beware.

UPDATE 2: iTunes is currently saying no new subscriptions are available due to overwhelming demand, and is asking users to check back in a hour. Let us know if you get signed up, and how long it takes!

UPDATE 3: Here’s our official TiPb iTunes Match troubleshooting thread in the forums to give and get extra help!

Video: The Pug that can’t stand the iPhone

Some animals just have no taste and this Pug is definitely one of them. Picture the scene; he is happily lying on his owner’s bed watching TV when a commercial comes on. The commercial is for the latest and greatest iPhone 4S but this Pug is having none of it. It sends him into a barking and growling frenzy, stamping his feet, gnashing his teeth, it really is a site to behold. As soon as the ad is finished, he settles down again and continues watching the TV.

Now as we all know, the iPhone 4S is the best iPhone ever, this little Pug must either hate the music on the ad or just hates ads all together. I am sure it has nothing to do with the iPhone 4S!

Improvements that we ought to see in the iPhone 5 (part 2)

The iPhone 4S, as we saw earlier is now probably the best smartphone on the market today, but as amazing as this phone is, there is plenty of room for improvement. In this post, we look at yet another list of things that should be improved on the iPhone 4S. One thing everyone should remember, is that creating an amazing product is no easy task, so the ultimate product will be depend heavily on factors such as technology, marketing, pricing, and of course, the overall Apple ecosystem that plays a strong part on the development of the iPhone.

The following are some of the additional improvements that should really be featured in the next generation iPhone.

An enhanced Siri: Apple has managed to take voice command to the next level while its rivals have cleverly pushed it aside for the past few months. However, the system still has its flaws including the fact that it cannot properly understand sophisticated words and the integration with other features is still rather immature. A refinement of this technology would be a great plus point for Apple.

Near Field Communication (NFC):  Call Google what you want, but the fact that it is trying hard to introduce a mobile payment system with NFC technology may very well be the biggest revolution in mobile technology for the years to come. It could very well herald a huge change in our shopping habits and have wider ramifications. It could reduce the role of credit cards and paper money; not to mention, it will give Google huge amount of influence if the service is widely adopted. The iPhone must either fall in line or Apple should offer something similar to the Google Wallet, it has the means and the necessary reach, so any attempt would be successful in some sort.

3D Display: Yet another to the testament of the innovative capabilities of its rivals is the adoption of 3D technology, which the iPhone is yet to feature. While this feature may not be in Apple’s most anticipated list, there is no doubt that if the iPhone is going to play a larger role in entertainment and gaming, then it must introduce 3D technology sooner or later.

It’s not the size of the iPhone screen that could fragment, it’s the resolution

iPhone 5 to have metal back, less than 4-inch display?

Despite case-leaks to the contrary, TiPb heard fairly consistently that we we shouldn’t expect a redesigned iPhone this year, and it turns out we heard right. Business Insider, however, is saying that there was a redesigned iPhone on tap but Apple pulled the plug months before.

Steve Jobs was unhappy with the bigger screen because it “fragmented” iPhones, Apple’s big argument against Android is the way all the different phones from different manufacturers fragment that operating system.

Which is odd, because screen size doesn’t “fragment” phones, iPhone or Android. It’s screen resolution that does that. A 3.5-inch iPhone at 960×640 pixels is pretty much the same to develop for as a 4-inch iPhone at 960×640. It’s only if that 4-inch iPhone jumps to something like 1280×720 that developers have a problem.

Apple has several prototypes per generation and I’d be shocked if they hadn’t and aren’t still testing devices with different screen sizes. If Apple does ever choose to pull the trigger on a bigger iPhone screen, they’ll no doubt have a plan for it, whether it’s slightly reducing the density or boxing the content (like iPad does with iPad apps) to maintain the pixel count.

Even if Apple stays with 3.5-inches, believing it to be ideal for single-handed ease of use, they can’t change the resolution arbitrarily without causing massive issues with pixels falling off the grid.

BI‘s source goes on to say this iPhone prototype had an aluminum back, like the iPad, would eventually use liquid metal in “nano-chromatic” colors, and had a wide, capacitive Home button.
