ZENandTECH 16: Negative Thinking

iPhones and iPads are great for journaling and one of the best ways to take advantage of journalling is to learn to deal with negative thinking. We can be our own worst bully. If our inner voice pushes us down the path to worry, criticism, victim-hood, perfectionism, and avoidance, our thinking has turned negative and we need to do something about it. This is ZENandTECH!

Daily Tip: How to stop your iPhone or iPad asking to join Wi-Fi networks

When your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is not connected to a WiFi network and it sees one, it will ask if you want to join. If you are in an area with a lot of networks it can quickly become very irritating, dealing with these pop ups. Well the good news is that you can stop it from happening.

Case-Mate Advertises iPhone 5 Cases with Revealing Photos

Being ahead of the game, accessory manufacturer Case-Mate has been hard at work designing new cases for its upcoming case lineup. More specifically, the company’s iPhone 4S/5 collection. Of course, we do not have any solid details of the design yet, certainly not regarding exact dimensions, but that has not stopped Case-Mate from placing its chips on uncertain information. The origin and validity of such details would have to be questionable at this point, but nonetheless it is certainly possible that a trustworthy source was found to aid in case development.

Case-Mate had accidentally published a page containing iPhone 5 case designs on Thursday, revealing renderings of products and the potential footprint of the device. Adding an air of plausible truth to the likeliness that this is indeed the new look, renderings do line up quite well with prior ramblings and Case-Mate must have done a fair amount of research beforehand.

The design of iPhone 5 is shaping up to be a stark contrast to iPhone 4′s boxy, glass-dominated looks. Renderings show off a thin, iPod touch-esque rounded shape. Another notable observation is how the mute switch is on the device’s left side rather than on the right as it has been.

Every accessory manufacturer wants to be the first in line for a popular new phone’s early buyers; even if risky in terms of specifics, accessory development has to start somewhere early on. Thus this could completely be all guessing on Case-Mate’s part. On the other hand, we are sure Apple would supply some manufacturers with a mold or blueprints early so that customers do not have to wait weeks to purchase what some consider essential. (If so, Case-Mate may have just lost that privilege…)

Preparations have also begun for the imminent iPhone 4S, Case-Mate seemingly unsure which will be released. All signs point to iPhone 4S sharing the same look as its predecessor, in which case nothing would have to be done by accessory manufacturers other than rebranding. If iPhone 5 also makes its way to market (fingers crossed), then check out more Case-Mate cases that could be protecting its new design below.

Qantas to test in-flight iPad entertainment system

Daily Tips: How to quickly charge your iPad 2

Qantas has announced they will begin a trial run for an in-flight entertainment system centered around Apple’s iPad tablet, initially limiting the test to a single Boeing 767-300 which allows streaming of music and video content to all of the aircraft’s 254 seats.

In what it’s trumpeting as a ‘world first’, Qantas will next month begin trials of Apple’s iPad for in-flight entertainment, using wi-fi to stream content to the tablets from a central server on the aircraft.

The central server will use 5 WiFi access points throughout the aircraft, of which each iPad can connect to using a custom pre-loaded ‘Q Streaming’ app that bypasses Apple’s default iOS homescreen and instead presents users with an on-demand library of content to stream. Qantas says that if any passenger decides to take one home with them, the iPad will be essentially rendered useless outside of the aircraft thanks to their Q Streaming app lockdown.

Passengers who opt to bring their own tablet or laptop can also hook into the new content streaming system, and Qantas will additionally allow a 24-hour viewing window for those using their own device if the movie is cut short by the flight. If successful, Qantas will add an additional 10 aircraft to the program and they’re also considering bringing it to the Airbus A330.

I don’t know about you, but the prospect of being able to hook my iPad into a content-rich streaming system would surely make a cross-country flight a lot less unbearable.

BiteSMS now available for iOS 5 [jailbreak]

BiteSMS iOS 5

BiteSMS, one of my favorite jailbreak apps, just got updated for iOS 5. It is a beta version and the developer is asking that you don’t submit bug reports just yet as they already know about a lot of them.

Due to the overwhelming number of emails from users wanting to be private beta testers, we have decided to release this iOS 5 compliant version via a public beta repos.

This is a very early beta release, so at this stage please don’t email us bug reports as we most likely know about them. This is not a normal beta, it’s more that users running iOS 5 would no doubt prefer something as opposed to nothing!!!

Saying that, it’s a pretty stable release and we hope you like the new look Quick Compose and Quick Reply plus the deep integration with the Apple Notification Centre. Also iMessage works seamlessly inside biteSMS.

If you’d like to try out the beta version of BiteSMS for iOS 5, simply add the following Cydia repository:

http://test-cydia.bitesms.com/

Once you install the beta version simply perform a tethered boot and you should be good to go. If you try it out let us know what you think. If you need more help, check out our TiPb jailbreak forums!

More iPhone 5 And iPhone 4S Internals Spotted

style="text-align: center;">href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Apple-iPhone-A5-chipset.jpg">class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-23705" title="Apple-iPhone-A5-chipset" src="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Apple-iPhone-A5-chipset.jpg" alt="" width="612" height="546" />

Hey, are you ready to stare at a mess of electronic components and try and guess about the future of iPhones? Because I sure am! href="http://www.phonearena.com/news/Alleged-next-iPhone-component-shot-reveals-Apple-A5-chip_id22225">PhoneArena has a component that they believe is for the iPhone 5, spotted on Chinese not-quite-Twitter Wiebo. It’s an A5 chip, and it doesn’t match the one that goes in the iPad 2 — so logically it’s for the iPhone 5 (or maybe the iPhone 4S?) The visible chunk of the battery say 430 mAh, so it’s probably 1430mAh, as the iPhone 4 is 1420mAh.

href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/09/19/plethora_of_purported_apple_iphone_4s_parts_surface.html">AppleInsider also has some internal sections which they believe to be from an unreleased iPhone, this time the iPhone 4S, due to their similarity to those found in the iPhone 4.
