Apple Stores Now Require Reservation for iPhone 4S Purchase

Given the massive demand for the iPhone 4S, Apple Stores are requiring customers interested in purchasing the new iPhone to reserve one online prior to visiting the store. This is easily accomplished by visiting the How To Buy iPhone 4S, where you can select a store and check stock. Earlier today, Apple announced sales of over 4 million of the iPhone 4S this weekend. Online orders are now pushed back 1-2 weeks and checking a few local NY stores yielded zero availability.

How to get Siri to correctly pronounce your name or call you something else

Trying to figure out how to get the iPhone 4S‘s Siri virtual personal assistant to say your name properly? One of Siri’s abilities is to learn who you are and refer to you by your first name. However, many of us have names that Siri does not how to pronounce correctly. Or perhaps you don’t even want to be called by your real name. For example, Ally likes to go by “Jailbreak Ninja”. To get Siri to pronounce your name correctly or call you something else, all you need to do ask. Or you can change the nickname field of your contact info to a phonetically spelled version of your name.

Siri will the update the nickname field of your contact info to this name.

You can also update your nickname manually, and here’s how:

There you go! Now when Siri says your name, it will say it however you spelled it in your nickname field.

Please let us know how this tip worked out for you! Is anyone choosing a nickname other than a phonetically spelled version of their first name, like “Master”, to be humorous? Let us know in the comments below!

iPhone 4S available in Apple Stores by reservation only

Apple has updated their website to reflect that if you want to buy an iPhone 4S at an Apple Store, you’re going to have to reserve it online first.

iPhone 4S is available in store by reservation only. Reserve yours after 9:00 p.m. tonight for pickup tomorrow. When you come in, you’ll choose a carrier and plan, and we’ll get your iPhone up and running before you leave the store.

This seems to be Apple’s way of minimizing lines and I think it’s a great idea. Instead of showing up to the Apple Store hoping that they have an iPhone 4S in stock, you can reserve it online the night before.

You can, of course, also order it to be shipped.

The iPhone 4S Vs Canon 5D Mark II Video Fight

iPhone 4S / Canon 5d MKII Side by Side Comparison from Robino Films on Vimeo.

The Canon 5D Mark II is widely credited with revolutionizing the indy film-making world, allowing directors to put their vision on screen with a $3000 DSLR rather than $30000 pro-video camera, while offering the incredible modularity of interchangeable lenses.

And here is that same incredible camera compared to the iPhone 4S for video.

There’s no doubting that the iPhone 4S is remarkably competent, especially once you use the video stabilization, but once you start to look closer there’s really no comparison. On depth-of-field alone, the 5DII blows away the iPhone 4S.

But you know what? I know which one I’ll be able to carry in my pocket.

If you head over here, you can download the footage at a larger scale, and see the setup they used for the shoot, and it’s pretty admirable how closely they tried to match the iPhone’s settings on the Canon.

Found Footage: Two Siris Talking

What happens when you take one Siri and have her to talk to another Siri. Hilarity.

Update: This is likely staged, but we’ll still give comedic style points to producer.

iPhone 4S Sent Into Space

Yes, we’ve seen cellphones being sent into space, but it’s always something that makes us happy. This time it was two iPhone 4S’ that were sent up with a weather balloon, one recording video, the other taking photographs at regular intervals. Here’s how they describe the action:

We launched 2 iPhone 4S phones with a weather balloon to go up to 100,000. We put one of the iPhone 4S’s on an interval photo timer app and the other on video mode. We used s Spot GPS tracker (though I would not recommend it because it only tracks in 15 minutes increments.

While people on YouTube seem to think this a fake, I’ll happily keep my optimism and chose to believe that they sent two iPhones up to 100,000 feet.
