We were href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/what-does-zite-say-about-your-state/2011/08/30/">just talking about Zite this morning, and now this news comes in: href="http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/social.media/08/30/zite.cnn/">CNN has just bought the digital magazine. Rumors swirled over the last few weeks that Zite was up for grabs and that CNN was eying them up, and now the move has officially been made.
CNN is claiming that it will run Zite as an independent business, and will use CNN to promote the software, eventually rolling Zite’s tech into CNN’s other apps.
In the press release, they did mention one thing that was a little worrying:
The Zite app, which is free, will not contain advertisements at first. Zite recently mined app-usage data for a report that showed users’ interests by state, information that can be attractive to marketers.
I dislike that “at first”.
They also plan on expanding Zite onto other OSs.
