Camera+ update brings back VolumeSnap

Camera+, the popular photography iPhone app has been updated to include VolumeSnap, the ability to trigger the camera’s shutter with the volume buttons – again.

Last year, tap tap tap submitted a version of Camera+ that included VolumeSnap and Apple rejected it. Then tap tap tap tweeted about a hidden easter egg that would turn on the feature with the then-current version. Apple got wind of it and removed Camera+ from the App Store entirely.

Months later, Camera+ was allowed back into the App Store and Apple also also brought the functionality of VolumeSnap to iOS 5. Now, Apple has accepted the update for Camera+ that includes VolumeSnap.

VolumeSnap is back, beyotches!!

In addition to VolumeSnap, Camera+ is quite a fantastic photo editing app. One of my favorite features is the ability to expose separately from focus.

Camera+ is available on the iPhone and on sale for $0.99.

Updated Gmail app lands back in the App Store

iOS Gmail App

The once pulled, now updated, GMail application is again available for downloading through the App Store. The previous build was approved and quickly pulled after some issues with Push Notification, and we have been waiting for the application to surface again. For those who still have it installed, the updated advises that you delete the previous version, and then install this version instead of just updating this one over the previous build. With no errors on launch, and notifications pushing, could this update be what we had hoped to see originally? Hit the link below to grab it for yourself, and let us know how it works out for you.

Rumor: iOS 5.0.2 around the corner to re-address battery issues, iOS 5.1 coming soon with Siri enhancements

Apple iOS 5

Coming as a surprise to no one — we hope — Macerkopf.de says Apple is working hard on iOS 5.0.2 and iOS 5.1 beyond that. iOS 5.0.2 should address battery life issues that remained following the iOS 5.0.1 release and it’s initial batch of battery fixes. iOS 5.1, they say, will bring some new features to Siri, including the ability to take pictures and video, and toggle Bluetooth, Wi-Fi.

Here’s to hoping for another beta release in the coming days, and a full release soon after!

Gmail App for iOS Back In App Store

Google today announced that the Gmail app for iOS is once again available in the App Store. For years, a good number of users have been longing for a native Gmail client .Google finally href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/native-gmail-app-for-iphone-ipad-available-now/2011/11/02/">released a Gmail app earlier this month, which was subsequently pulled from the App Store within a matter of hours due to a bug with notifications. The Gmail app is once again available for download, with the bugs squashed. We’d caution those who have yet to download it, to href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/why-googles-native-gmail-for-iphone-app-was-half-assed/2011/11/02/">temper your enthusiasm and expectations.

According to Google, they are “just getting started with the Gmail app for iOS and will be iterating rapidly to bring you more features“.

They need to get to iterating and fast.

AT&T iPhone Users Are Sticking With Carrier

According to href="http://allthingsd.com/20111116/few-att-iphone-users-fleeing-to-verizon-sprint/">AllThingsD, AT&T iPhone users are sticking with the carrier, despite alternative carriers offering the iPhone including both Sprint and Verizon. AT&T’s Glenn Lurie, President of emerging devices, says that the number of customers who have canceled service remains largely unchanged.

href="http://cdn.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/happy_happy_joy_joy-4881.gif" class="lightbox" >class="alignnone size-full wp-image-25243" title="happy_happy_joy_joy-4881" src="http://cdn.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/happy_happy_joy_joy-4881.gif" alt="iPhone customers happy with AT&T" width="437" height="415" />

Churn has not moved at all,” said Lurie.

There was a time when iPhone users, faced with no other options, would consistently clamor for the opportunity to jump carriers. Now that the iPhone is available on Verizon and Sprint, it seems that most have had a change of heart. Is it that AT&T’s service has improved? Possibly, there are a number of reasons as to why they are seeing minimal churn. Most primary customers are receiving the option to upgrade their iPhone after one year, despite still remaining under contract and receiving a full subsidy. For these folks, it makes no sense to move to a rival carrier, given the added cost of breaking a contract.

AT&T still is the only carrier in town that offers simultenous voice and data. Don’t discount the ability to talk and surf at the same time. It’s one of the reasons I’ve stuck with AT&T.

How about you? Did you switch or did you consider it? Have a change of heart upon realizing that perhaps the grass isn’t always greener at another wireless carrier?

Tastefully Done Steve Jobs iPhone Backplate

Third-party iPhone backplate manufacturer K.O. Gadget is offering Steve Jobs tribute backplates for the iPhone 4/4S, available in either black or white. The company uses the artwork created by designer 19-year-old Jonathan Mak and we can only hope there is some compensation sent Mak’s way. As for the quality of the backplate, everythingiCafe member RoofMonkey offers up a nicely done href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/threads/iphone-4-4s-steve-jobs-backplate.81436/page-3#post-889717">review in our forums and installation appears to be very easy.

The “href="http://store.kogadget.com/product.php?id_product=18">iPhone for Steve” backplates retail for $25.90 and come in either white or black. We’re not sure how long these will last, as Apple would certainly frown upon any company using Apple trademarks.

Steve Jobs tribute painting made in real time [video]

Artist Aaron Kizer has made a painting as a tribute to Steve Jobs. What is so special about that? Well he did it live at the 11th Hour Live Music and Arts Show in Kentucky and it was all captured on video in real time.

It starts off as a few white brush strokes on a black wall but soon starts to take shape. In just over six minutes, the painting is finished and it is all done to music too. I am sure you will agree, the end result is stunning.

Netflix revamping its iPad app, new look and more content coming soon

Netflix is currently revamping its Netflix iPad app to bring it into line with its just updated apps on other platforms. The new update will include a complete redesign of the user interface.

The new design is much more immersive and provides greater focus on the growing number of titles in the Netflix catalog. In fact, the new interface displays twice as many movies and TV shows as before, enabling you to discover even more titles you’ll love. Also, we’ve taken greater advantage of the tablet’s unique features, inviting you to swipe through rows of titles featuring larger artwork.

Netflix claims that the iPad app should be available on the coming weeks; it certainly looks like an exciting update. We will let you know as soon as it’s available.
