Catcha Prince App Review – A Pixel-y Mashup of TD and RPG

Drawmind have done an amazing job in executing their game, Catcha Prince. This relatively new, clever mashup of the tower defense and RPG genres doesn’t disappoint.

Players will find themselves of a large, four story tower. You’re placed with the task of defending the tower by strategically placing three selected heroes on the screen along with shooting arrows at approaching enemies from the fourth story of the tower. Hence the game finding itself in the Tower Defense genre. The gameplay doesn’t quite stop right at that, though. While defending the tower, you’re also in charge of leveling up your heroes, and upgrading as you make your way through the lengthy story mode included with the game.

There are three difficulty modes to play through, though each faces you with the exact same levels and opponents. All three take the place of three different save slots. In other words, you can have three different campaigns going on at one time, if desired. When you first start the game, all of the 40 levels will be locked, save for the first one. As you beat it, the next is unlocked, and so on. Before you actually start to defend, you must choose three heroes out of seven, of which three cost in-game money to unlock, to aid you in defending your tower. You can deploy each of these three units, in a certain area, where they will each use a unique weapon to kill monsters; after a few seconds, they’ll return to your tower to recharge. Each time you place them in the field, they’ll gain one experience point, which will ultimately level them up.

As you kill the hordes of monsters and enemies, your money counter will continually increase. This currency can further be used for buying upgrades to your tower and new, more powerful, bows to shoot with, since the prince that you control cannot level up.

Once you see the game for yourself, you’ll instantaneously fall in love with the artwork. Why? Each and every single thing in the game, sprites, backgrounds, letters, menus, etc. are designed with a retro theme. In other words, they’ve been rendered pixel by pixel to create a wonderful look.

If you’re a sucker for the kind of artwork Catcha Prince offers, like me, then I would recommend the game solely based on that. Even otherwise, the game’s clever elements of tower defense and RPG mashed together are enough to make the game an easy buy.

Kingdom Conquest racking up in-app purchase charges?

iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users are complaining that Sega’s Massively Multiplayer Online Game, Kingdom Conquest is allegedly “stealing” money from their iTunes accounts. Even though the game itself is free, the game has many in app purchases, ranging from $0.99 – $43.99, which since mid-May, users claim these purchases are being made without their consent. If these complaints are to be believed, it seems that even people that didn’t download the original app are being effected as well.

Sega has responded to complaints in their forum:

“We are currently investigating this claim as well as some others, but since we have no access to any customers’ iTunes account information or transaction histories we highly recommend contacting Apple directly. “

“Allow me to state very clearly that Sega and ‘Kingdom Conquest’ are not acting maliciously in any way,”

Apple haven’t responded yet, however some customers have reported that Apple have offered refunds.

Have you been effected by this? Let us know, and either way remember it’s always a good policy to change your passwords regularly and check your download history.

Last-Minute Father’s Day Gifts That You Can Buy on an iPhone

Tomorrow you’ll wake up thinking that you have a free day ahead of you, if only for a few minutes. Next, you’ll grab your iPhone to find a call from your parents and voicemail you do not have to brush off thanks(?) to visual voicemail. In that moment, you realize what the day is and that you still do not have a gift. Then the next thing going through your mind is: there are always a few ties that look new lying around, or I could take a quick trip to that convenience store for a mug. But seriously, who wants those? If this describes your morning, continue reading for gifts that you can conveniently purchase on your iPhone, allowing you to secure a decent present as you’re getting ready.

A gift card to dad’s favorite retailer: Seriously, all this requires is for you to head over to any retailer’s site that you think your dad would enjoy purchasing something from and searching for a gift card. Kind of a typical last-minute gift, though.

Restaurant.com gift card: Nothing says “I love you” more than a nice dinner, right? At the economical prices on Restaurant.com, you should be able to provide dad with a few nice dinners to the best restaurants around rather than just one restaurant.

Netflix subscription: Why not give the gift of unlimited TV and movies for perhaps a year or two? Even if he already has a subscription, this will give him a break in payments. If not, you’ll be introducing him to one of the best twenty-first century inventions.

Premium Cigar of the Month club subscription: A club subscription that regularly provides your father with a variety of premium cigars gives you with a good excuse for not having cigars in-hand since he will be receiving multiple deliveries as part of the club subscription.

Beer, Cheese, Chocolate, (Flower, if so inclined), Cigar, and/or Wine Club Mixed Club Subscription: This one represents a little more thought since you can customize which clubs your father is subscribed to and in which months of the year the subscription is active. It is also a little more exciting to receive a quality assortment of items on a regular basis, making for a unique gift that gives you the same excuse that the Cigar of the Month club provides.

Of course, if any of these ideas was a life-saver, then let us know in the comments. If you have any other good gift ideas that can be easily purchased on an iPhone, share those as well.
