iPhones and iPads are great for journaling and one of the best ways to take advantage of journalling is to learn to deal with negative thinking. We can be our own worst bully. If our inner voice pushes us down the path to worry, criticism, victim-hood, perfectionism, and avoidance, our thinking has turned negative and we need to do something about it. This is ZENandTECH!

Daily Tip: How to stop your iPhone or iPad asking to join Wi-Fi networks
When your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is not connected to a WiFi network and it sees one, it will ask if you want to join. This is a really handy feature when you want to join it however what about if you don’t? If you are in an area with a lot of networks it can quickly become very irritating, dealing with these pop ups. Well the good news is that you can stop it from happening.
- Start off by selecting Settings
- Then open WiFi
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page
- Flick the toggle switch for Ask to Join Networks to Off
That is all there is to it. You will no longer receive pop ups asking you to join WiFi networks. Of course if you do want to join a network you will have to do it manually from now on.
- Start off by selecting Settings
- Then open WiFi
- Select the network you want to join
- Enter any password needed to access that network

Case-Mate Advertises iPhone 5 Cases with Revealing Photos
Being ahead of the game, accessory manufacturer Case-Mate has been hard at work designing new cases for its upcoming case lineup. More specifically, the company’s iPhone 4S/5 collection. Of course, we do not have any solid details of the design yet, certainly not regarding exact dimensions, but that has not stopped Case-Mate from placing its chips on uncertain information. The origin and validity of such details would have to be questionable at this point, but nonetheless it is certainly possible that a trustworthy source was found to aid in case development.
Case-Mate had accidentally published a page containing iPhone 5 case designs on Thursday, revealing renderings of products and the potential footprint of the device. Adding an air of plausible truth to the likeliness that this is indeed the new look, renderings do line up quite well with prior ramblings and Case-Mate must have done a fair amount of research beforehand.
The design of iPhone 5 is shaping up to be a stark contrast to iPhone 4′s boxy, glass-dominated looks. Renderings show off a thin, iPod touch-esque rounded shape. Another notable observation is how the mute switch is on the device’s left side rather than on the right as it has been.
Every accessory manufacturer wants to be the first in line for a popular new phone’s early buyers; even if risky in terms of specifics, accessory development has to start somewhere early on. Thus this could completely be all guessing on Case-Mate’s part. On the other hand, we are sure Apple would supply some manufacturers with a mold or blueprints early so that customers do not have to wait weeks to purchase what some consider essential. (If so, Case-Mate may have just lost that privilege…)
Preparations have also begun for the imminent iPhone 4S, Case-Mate seemingly unsure which will be released. All signs point to iPhone 4S sharing the same look as its predecessor, in which case nothing would have to be done by accessory manufacturers other than rebranding. If iPhone 5 also makes its way to market (fingers crossed), then check out more Case-Mate cases that could be protecting its new design below.

Qantas to test in-flight iPad entertainment system
Qantas has announced they will begin a trial run for an in-flight entertainment system centered around Apple’s iPad tablet, initially limiting the test to a single Boeing 767-300 which allows streaming of music and video content to all of the aircraft’s 254 seats.
In what it’s trumpeting as a ‘world first’, Qantas will next month begin trials of Apple’s iPad for in-flight entertainment, using wi-fi to stream content to the tablets from a central server on the aircraft.
The central server will use 5 WiFi access points throughout the aircraft, of which each iPad can connect to using a custom pre-loaded ‘Q Streaming’ app that bypasses Apple’s default iOS homescreen and instead presents users with an on-demand library of content to stream. Qantas says that if any passenger decides to take one home with them, the iPad will be essentially rendered useless outside of the aircraft thanks to their Q Streaming app lockdown.
Passengers who opt to bring their own tablet or laptop can also hook into the new content streaming system, and Qantas will additionally allow a 24-hour viewing window for those using their own device if the movie is cut short by the flight. If successful, Qantas will add an additional 10 aircraft to the program and they’re also considering bringing it to the Airbus A330.
I don’t know about you, but the prospect of being able to hook my iPad into a content-rich streaming system would surely make a cross-country flight a lot less unbearable.
BiteSMS now available for iOS 5 [jailbreak]
BiteSMS, one of my favorite jailbreak apps, just got updated for iOS 5. It is a beta version and the developer is asking that you don’t submit bug reports just yet as they already know about a lot of them.
Due to the overwhelming number of emails from users wanting to be private beta testers, we have decided to release this iOS 5 compliant version via a public beta repos.
This is a very early beta release, so at this stage please don’t email us bug reports as we most likely know about them. This is not a normal beta, it’s more that users running iOS 5 would no doubt prefer something as opposed to nothing!!!
Saying that, it’s a pretty stable release and we hope you like the new look Quick Compose and Quick Reply plus the deep integration with the Apple Notification Centre. Also iMessage works seamlessly inside biteSMS.
If you’d like to try out the beta version of BiteSMS for iOS 5, simply add the following Cydia repository:
http://test-cydia.bitesms.com/
Once you install the beta version simply perform a tethered boot and you should be good to go. If you try it out let us know what you think. If you need more help, check out our TiPb jailbreak forums!
More iPhone 5 And iPhone 4S Internals Spotted
Hey, are you ready to stare at a mess of electronic components and try and guess about the future of iPhones? Because I sure am! href="http://www.phonearena.com/news/Alleged-next-iPhone-component-shot-reveals-Apple-A5-chip_id22225">PhoneArena has a component that they believe is for the iPhone 5, spotted on Chinese not-quite-Twitter Wiebo. It’s an A5 chip, and it doesn’t match the one that goes in the iPad 2 — so logically it’s for the iPhone 5 (or maybe the iPhone 4S?) The visible chunk of the battery say 430 mAh, so it’s probably 1430mAh, as the iPhone 4 is 1420mAh.
href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/09/19/plethora_of_purported_apple_iphone_4s_parts_surface.html">AppleInsider also has some internal sections which they believe to be from an unreleased iPhone, this time the iPhone 4S, due to their similarity to those found in the iPhone 4.
Photo shows Apple A5 SoC inside next iPhone?
Chinese networking site Weibo posted a photo showing the Apple A5 system-on-a-chip (SoC) used in the iPad 2 nestled into what appears to be a next generation iPhone logic board. The logic board is connected to a white iPhone 4-like front cover with a speaker mesh that looks slightly larger than that of the official white iPhone 4.
The image also shows a slightly larger battery running at 1430mAH compared to the current iPhone 4 battery running at 1420mAH despite both batteries carrying the same model number.
It’s still up in the air as to whether Apple will release the iPhone 5 next to a cheaper iPhone 4S-style model, but the photo certainly suggests an expected specifications bump with an iPhone-4 like form factor.
As to this specific picture, some of the aspects of the image seem fishy to us. For example, the A5 logo stamped onto the chip itself looks rather suspect, so as always take this with a processor-sized grain of salt until we get the official word.

White iPhone 4s Appears In AT&T Inventory
href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/iphone-4s-whiteatt-1316301115.jpg">class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-23695" title="iphone-4s-whiteatt-1316301115" src="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/iphone-4s-whiteatt-1316301115.jpg" alt="" width="338" height="450" />href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/17/did-a-white-iphone-4s-just-pop-up-in-atandts-inventory-system/">An anonymous tipster hooked up Engadget with this screenshot of AT&T’s internal system, and what’s that at the bottom of the page? A White iPhone 4s. Unfortunately, we don’t know anything more than that, and it’s not a hell of a lot to go on.
So, what can we pick apart from this? It appears to be from an AT&T system for damaged items, which may explain the informal way the phone is described — without any other information as to color or size.
It’s not much to go on, and it’s interesting that there’s no mention of an iPhone 5 in the system either, black or white. My personal opinion is still that we’re going to see two new iPhones from the next announcement, but I’ve been wrong before.

I assume everyone remembers the Bop It, the electronic kid’s toy that’s been around in one form or another for decades? Its tinny commands ordering you the correct manner in which to manhandle it in a vaguely weird way when you stop to think about it, as if it were a training unit for Skynet, preparing us to follow every order of our robot overlords.
I digress.
href="http://itunes.apple.com/app/bop-it!-for-ipad/id438719058?mt=8">There’s a Bop It app. You can obey the commands either by drawing on the screen, or swinging your iPad in the appropriate manner — and there are additional unlockable “bopjects”, new handles for you to interact with in strange ways.
Me? I’m holding out for the Skip-It app…
Apple Set to Explode With Two New iPhones
J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz believes Apple’s plans to launch two new iPhones — the iPhone 5 and updated entry-level iPhone — in October will “likely drive quarterly shipments for the device higher.”
Moskowitz’s research revealed that the iPhone 5 will feature world phone (GSM and CDMA) capabilities to target Chinese carriers, and that the “iPhone 4-plus” (or iPhone 4S) will replace the iPhone 3GS as Apple’s lower-end offering. The introduction of an affordable iPhone, the iPhone 5, plus deals with href="http://www.iphonealley.com/news/sprint-iphone-rumors-heating-up">Sprint, China and possibly T-Mobile should make investors very happy according to Moskowitz. He expects a “big “bang” as Apple plans to target the mid-range mobile market and new Chinese customers.
However, onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/9to5mac.com/2011/07/07/there-will-be-two-different-iphones-in-september-and-the-cheaper-one-is-more-important/');" target="_blank" href="http://9to5mac.com/2011/07/07/there-will-be-two-different-iphones-in-september-and-the-cheaper-one-is-more-important/">9to5Mac said last week that while the iPhone 4-plus is flying off the production line, the iPhone 5 is facing production delays and may suffer shortages until 2012. While dedicated Apple fans wait for the iPhone 5, Apple seems to be focused on adding more people to its fan club by offering more affordable options like onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.iphonefaq.org/archives/971530');" target="_blank" href="http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/971530">Sprint’s unlimited data service plans.
A Sprint Nextel sales associate told href="http://www.iphonealley.com/news/sprint-ipad-and-iphone-ready-for-october-launch">TUAW that they would be carrying the iPhone 4 in October and iPhone 5 in 2012. We originally thought the associate was wrong, but perhaps Apple is expecting delays, and won’t be able to supply all four major U.S. carriers with the next generation device right away. It looks like Apple is betting on the low-end iPhone 4 to nab new customers through Sprint and T-mobile.
Once again I remind you that this all is speculation right now. The T-Mobile rumors have been pretty quiet lately, and no one is even sure when Apple plans to makes its next announcement. Even href="http://www.iphonealley.com/news/best-buy-leaks-possible-iphone-5-release-date">Best Buy and href="http://www.iphonealley.com/news/sprint-iphone-rumors-heating-up">Sprint, who are preparing for an iPhone launch in October, seem unsure of an actual release date.

Sprint Kills Early Upgrade Plan, Is iPhone 5 Coming?
When Verizon finally (finally) got the iPhone, it was preceded by a series of moves making it harder for customers to opt out of their contracts early or upgrade faster so that they’d roped into the iPhone 4 for as long as possible. We’re seeing something similar happen with Sprint now. href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/is-sprints-upped-termination-fee-a-precursor-to-the-iphone-5/2011/08/31/">They upped their early termination fee, and we’ve just heard that they’re href="http://allthingsd.com/20110919/ahead-of-possible-iphone-launch-sprint-tightens-upgrade-and-return-policies/">killing the Sprint Premier program, saying:
“In order to continue offering customers one of the best values of affordable unlimited data plans in the industry today, cutting-edge devices at great prices and our ongoing investment in providing great customer service, we had to make the difficult decision that it’s necessary to bring the Sprint Premier Program to a close at this time.”
Some members of this program were eligible to upgrade their phone every year, rather than the every two years that’s more standard. Sprint has also slashed return periods for phones from 30 days down to just two weeks.
Now, this in no way says the iPhone 5 is coming, but it’s one of those situations where you wouldn’t be thought mad for adding two and two together.
Reed Hastings apologizes, announces Netflix as streaming only, rebrands DVD business as Qwikster
Reed Hastings, the co-founder and CEO of Netflix has put up a video and blog post this morning apologizing to customers for the way their recent plan changes and increases were handled, and announcing that while streaming services will retain the Netflix name, the DVD (and now video game) mailer service will be spun off as Qwikster. Phew. This only really matters to US customers, and to those who in addition to streaming on iPhone, Apple TV, iPad, and iPod touch also have DVD mailer plans, but it’s an interesting case study in corporate communications none-the-less.
For the past five years, my greatest fear at Netflix has been that we wouldn’t make the leap from success in DVDs to success in streaming. Most companies that are great at something – like AOL dialup or Borders bookstores – do not become great at new things people want (streaming for us) because they are afraid to hurt their initial business. Eventually these companies realize their error of not focusing enough on the new thing, and then the company fights desperately and hopelessly to recover. Companies rarely die from moving too fast, and they frequently die from moving too slowly.
Commendable fearlessness. Apple has often said that if anyone cannibalizes their business, it’s going to be Apple themselves, and it’s good to see other companies take those types of risks.
So we realized that streaming and DVD by mail are becoming two quite different businesses, with very different cost structures, different benefits that need to be marketed differently, and we need to let each grow and operate independently. It’s hard for me to write this after over 10 years of mailing DVDs with pride, but we think it is necessary and best: In a few weeks, we will rename our DVD by mail service to “Qwikster”.
It’s going to be a different website — you’ll have to go to netflix.com for your streaming and qwikster.com for your discs — and different entries on your credit card statement. Hastings assures everyone, however, that the price hikes are done and the characteristic red envelopes will remain the same. However, for customers of both services, it could mean twice the overhead in managing those services, and a dilution of what Netflix means to them. (Twice as much is often half as strong.)
I want to acknowledge and thank our many members that stuck with us, and to apologize again to those members, both current and former, who felt we treated them thoughtlessly.
Check the video above and full post via the link below and let us know how you think he did, and whether you’ll be sticking with Netflix — and Qwikster — going forward.
iPhone 4 vs. DROID BIONIC [Gallery]
Ever wonder what an iPhone 4 would look like with a monster 4.5 inch screen, a scad of ports from micro USB to HDMI, and more logos stamped on it than you could shake LTE at? Well here you go! Thanks to the phenomenal Phil Nickinson of Android Central we can now see our glass and stainless steel iPhone 4 dwarfed by the immense slab of LTE powered plastic that’s the DROID BIONIC (yes, they had the technology).
There’s a lot to heart about both devices and if you’re on Verizon and having a tough time deciding, and the pictures below aren’t enough, check out TiPb’s breakdown of which one you should get and the pros and cons of each.

Samsung Already Planning Legal Attack On iPhone 5
href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/gavel.jpg">class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-20765" title="gavel" src="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/gavel.jpg" alt="" width="456" height="275" />
Are you sick and tired of the constant patent battles between tech companies? Because we sure are. We just found out that Samsung is already warming up their legal action href="http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/19/samsung-already-planning-to-target-iphone-5-with-patent-lawsuits/">to attack Apple over the iPhone 5. As reported href="http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/tech/2011/09/133_94958.html">in the Korea Times:
“Just after the arrival of the iPhone 5 here, Samsung plans to take Apple to court here for its violation of Samsung’s wireless technology related patents,” said a senior executive from Samsung Electronics, asking not to be identified.
“For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents. We will stick to a strong stance against Apple during the lingering legal fights.”
This battle between the two companies isn’t going away anytime soon, and frankly it’s just getting more and more ludicrous. They’re readying a legal battle for a phone that doesn’t even officially exist yet. Which means that Apple is probably getting ready for the Galaxy S III.
Mobile Nations Monday Brief for September 19, 2011
Apple resetting developers iOS 5 iCloud backups on September 22nd
Apple has announced that it intends to reset developer iCloud Backup data on Thursday, September 22nd. The announcement was made on the Apple Developer Boards. The reason may be that Apple is getting ready to release the iOS 5 GM.
On Thursday, September 22, the iCloud Backup data will be reset. Backing up to iCloud or restoring from an iCloud backup will be unavailable from 9 AM PDT – 5 PM PDT. If you attempt a backup or restore during this time, you will receive an alert that the backup or restore was not successful. After this reset, you will be unable to restore from any backup created prior to September 22. A full backup will happen automatically the next time your device backs up to iCloud.
GM stands for Gold Master and should be the final release of the iOS 5 software before it is made publically available. This could be as early as the first week of October along with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4s.
