Skype for iPad coming soon!
Skype representative, Rick Osterloh, has confirmed to TUAW that Skype for iPad will be coming soon. A video of the new iPad app, was leaked onto the internet this morning, on Skype’s official YouTube channel but was quickly made private. Luckily, some people managed to successfully record a screen capture of the video before it was taken down.
The app will let users to chat and make calls via wifi and 3G, including video calls on the iPad 2. Osterloh said that, while they were fine with the iPhone app on the original iPad, the new cameras on the iPad 2 are what made a dedicated iPad app “super compelling”.
No release date has been announced yet, but we can speculate that it will be soon.
See the leaked video (sorry, no audio) after the break. What do you think of the Skype for iPad app? Do you need Skype on your iPad?

Apple releases iOS 5 beta 2 for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Apple TV, iTunes 10.5 beta 2 for Mac
Apple has just released iOS 5 beta 2 (build 9A5248d) for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV, and iTunes 10.5 beta 2 for Mac. It’s a rare Friday release for a company that, in the past, has typically released every second Tuesday.
It’s also a large release, the iPhone 4 version weighing in at over 817MB (hey, those notifications gotta sit somewhere!).
As always, you need a paid developer account with Apple to get it (don’t fall for those UDID slot sale scams!), and installing via Xcode is usually your safest bet.
If you’re downloading now, be patient. Apple’s servers are no doubt being slammed. When you get it, let us know what you think! And don’t forget to head on over to our iOS 5 Forum for the latest discussions!

Apple posts MobileMe to iCloud transition guide
Apple has posted a guide to help users transition from MobileMe to iCloud. The good news? Just like TiPb’s been telling you from the start, there will be web apps for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and Find my iPhone. Also, if you need more storage, you’ll be able to buy it. The bad news? iWeb, MobileMe Gallery, and iDisk are toast.
iWeb, Gallery, and iDisk users are encouraged to move their data off MobileMe before the June 30, 2012 cut off date, and knowledge base articles have been posted to give additional information.
What about those of us who have a plethora of Apple IDs? (iTunes, MobileMe, developer, discussion, etc.), will Apple finally let us bring them together, and in the cloud, bind them? Not so much…
If I use different accounts for iTunes and MobileMe, can I merge them into a single account and use it with iCloud? No. You cannot merge two accounts into one. However, you will be able to move your MobileMe account (yourname@me.com) to iCloud and, if you choose, you can continue to use a different iTunes account for store purchases and iTunes in the Cloud.
Family pack users can, however, move to separate iCloud accounts.
Check out the full transition guide via the link below, and let us know if it answered your questions, and if the answers are the ones you wanted.
External Keyboard or Virtual Keyboard? – Poll & More
Michael DeLisi and I are curious to see how many of our readers actually like the iPhone’s virtual keyboard. I, personally, have heard tons of complaints about the keyboard being “too small”, “too responsive”, or something else of the same nature. Me? I love the virtual keyboard currently on the iDevice and couldn’t think of anything as an alternative. Even so, I have highlighted a few external keyboards below, and there’s a poll for you guys.

/> For people that truly lack the ability to type on the iPhone’s virtual keyboard, the Keyboard Buddy case from Boxwave in a case that instantly transforms your iPhone 4 into everyday slider phones. It’s got a full, slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It does give you functionality, but it also gives you a little bit more bulk and takes the originality away from the iPhone’s design, making it another “average” phone. Plus, the case is going to run you $69.95.

/> Ever seen the T-Mobile Sidekick? This case from tech-lovers ThinkGeek turns your iPhone into a device with similar mechanics. Although it doesn’t quite make your iPhone look like a Sidekick, it makes the keyboard function like one. The case swivels counter-clockwise to reveal a flip-out, bluetooth-connected keyboard, which can then be used for typing on your iPhone. When not in use, the keyboard is stowed under the part of the case that houses your iPhone, making your phone look a bit bulkier. Considering it’s made my ThinkGeek, the quality is probably decent and the design sure does look interesting. You can purchase a case for your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS at the above link for $39.99.

The Apple Samsung iPhone War Goes Back to South Korea
It’s not over yet… Apple has taken their Samsung patent infringement fight back to Samsung’s home court in South Korea. In a suit filed with the Seoul Central District Court on June 22, Apple alleges that the Samsung Galaxy S, Droid Charge, Infuse 4G, and many other Samsung devices copy the design and technology of the third-generation iPhone.
Apple originally sued Samsung in April claiming that their Galaxy products “slavishly” copied onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.ipadngravy.com');" target="_blank" title="iPad" href="http://www.ip4help.com">iPad and iPhone technologies. Samsung retaliated by filing their own patent infringement lawsuits in three different countries (Germany, South Korea and Japan).
“We will continue to actively defend and protect our intellectual property,” Suwon, South Korea-based Samsung said in an e-mailed statement.
When contacted by Bloomberg News, an Apple spokesperson pointed to Apple’s April 18 statement that said Samsung “blatantly” copied its technologies and designs.
This one looks far from over.

Infinite Loop iPad and iPhone stand seeking Kickstarter funding [video]
The Infinite Loop is a rather clever stand that you can use for your iPad or iPhone. It has been designed by Tim Gushue and it is currently seeking funding from Kickstarter.
The InfiniteLoop is a simple solution to making the iPad truly useful. It helps the iPad to deliver on it’s versatility when reading in bed, watching a movie on a plane or doing Facetime on the go. The InfiniteLoop was born out of the frustration with not being able to find an iPad stand that could accommodate all uses.
It is basically a loop of slim bendable metal coated in a plastic material that you can bend into many shapes; to fit different usage scenarios. Because of the way it bends, it has a huge advantage over other products. Another advantage is the way it holds your device; it is not device specific which means any new iPads or iPhones will not require a new stand. It will also be available in a mini version suitable for your iPhone.
The designer is looking for funding of $27,500 before going into production, it has already gained over $7000 in pledges with 27 days left to run.
Take a look at the video after the break and let us know what you think, hit or miss?
Blush music video created with the Brushes iPad app [video]
Animator Shawn Harris has created a music video for the band Blush — using only the iPad app Brushes. The video is based on a series of hand drawn sketches put together to create a colourful animated music video.
To create the video, individual frames were draw in Brushes then recorded in the apps playback feature; which shows you all of the strokes used to create the final picture in a video format. The videos were then pasted together with the Brushes PC viewer app and the final video produced.
Take a look at the music video and the making of the video after the break. Let us know what you think of it!
You Can Now Score A Free @me.com Address With iOS 5
If you were a MobileMe subscriber, you probably already had a @me.com, but those of us not willing to pay for that service never really lucked into one. However, it now looks like iOS 5 will change that, and Lifehacker have picked apart how to score a free @me.com address from beta 1.
In iOS 5, open the Settings app and tap iCloud. You’ll be asked to sign in with your Apple ID. If you already have one, go ahead and sign in and then enable the Mail option. This will give you the opportunity to add a new me.com email address. All you have to do is pick what you want and it will be added. Your login credentials will be your Apple ID but you’ll send mail from the account you choose.
So, if you’re lucky enough to have iOS 5 beta but never bought a MobileMe account, here’s your chance to grab a rather nifty email address.
iPhone 4S To Get Dual LED Flash?
The iPhone 4 relies on a single LED to illuminate its photography, but a new report from industry rag Digitimes states that Apple may be mimicking other manufacturers, and moving to a dual LED system:
Recent market rumors have indicated that Apple’s iPhone 5 is likely to come with a dual-LED flash with Taiwan-based LED packaging firms Everlight Electronics, Edison Opto and Lite-On Technology being pinpointed as potential suppliers. All related companies have denied they are involved in the production of dual-LED flashes.
For example, check out the HTC HD7, which has two LEDs. This won’t make a huge difference to how the iPhone handles, but should provide some additional illumination while shooting in dark conditions — though LED flashes will give everything you snap a pretty pail pallor. Earlier this year, we heard rumors that the iPhone 4S would have a redesigned back with a shifted flash, and this seems to support that idea.
Microsoft Brings Xbox Live to Windows Phone, Still Missing Games
One of Microsoft’s most powerful brands recognizable by every teenager and old hipster in the U.S. is being given a much more prominent presence in Windows Phone than ever before that could invigorate the OS’s gaming scene. Of course, that brand is Xbox Live, the social interactive “hub” for gamers to connect, brag, and play with or against each other. With the next major version of Microsoft’s mobile touch operating system Windows Phone, titled Mango (hey, it’s Microsoft), the Xbox Live-integrated Games Hub will be added.
Games Hub is more or less a mobile version of Xbox Live, offering what could arguably be the best interface for gamers-on-the-go. Previously, Windows Phone included an “Xbox Live Extras” app, but that brought limited basic functionality.
The feature list stretches from a Collection view of downloaded games to an ability to stalk view the mobile or console gaming activity of Xbox Live friends. Profiles can be fully customized from Games Hub and there are even the animated 3D avatars from the console dashboard. As part of the social angle, users can search for Gamertags, add friends, send messages via Live, and compare game/achievement history. Live-related news and notifications for game requests round out the revamped, almost full-featured Xbox Live that Games Hub adds to Windows Phone.
While Apple includes the similar Game Center app on iOS devices, Games Hub undoubtedly looks to be best-in-class, oddly particularly in interface. On the other hand, that interface does not mean much without games, and Windows Phone has an almost insignificant amount of games in comparison to the huge App Store library. That may change eventually as Microsoft pushes a mobile Xbox to developers, but it can be funny how the main portable gaming players (pun unintended) are Nintendo, Sony, and Apple. Though if Microsoft wants a laugh, there are the highly-boastable Xbox Live subscription sales.

Found Footage: Music Video Animated Entirely With An iPad
How’s this for cool? The entire music video for Blush’s debut single Undivided (feat. Snoop Dogg) was painted frame by frame by animator Shawn Harris on his iPad. If you want to know just how much work goes into a video like this, check out the making of video. The entire thing was done with Brushes, painted by fingertip, and took about 7,000 frames of animation — all hand done.
