If you were a MobileMe subscriber, you probably already had a @me.com, but those of us not willing to pay for that service never really lucked into one. However, it now looks like iOS 5 will change that, and Lifehacker have picked apart how to score a free @me.com address from beta 1.
In iOS 5, open the Settings app and tap iCloud. You’ll be asked to sign in with your Apple ID. If you already have one, go ahead and sign in and then enable the Mail option. This will give you the opportunity to add a new me.com email address. All you have to do is pick what you want and it will be added. Your login credentials will be your Apple ID but you’ll send mail from the account you choose.
So, if you’re lucky enough to have iOS 5 beta but never bought a MobileMe account, here’s your chance to grab a rather nifty email address.
