Apple files complaint against iPhone 4S-named porn domains

Apple files complaint against iPhone 4S-named porn domains

According to Domain Name Wire, Apple has filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Forum against 7 porn sites that include iPhone 4S in their domain name, including iPhone4S.com (!) which currently redirects to “Free Naughty for Mobile”.

And really, you have to ask yourself why Apple didn’t proactively get that domain name before releasing the product. It was registered in August 2008, so someone else had the foresight to follow Apple’s naming conventions.

Indeed. Hopefully iPhone5S through iPhone 500S are now all safely registered by Apple’s agents.

Apple ads new don’t-purge, don’t-back-up file store in iOS 5

Apple ads new don't-purge, don't-back-up file store in iOS 5

Apple has announced that, as part of iOS 5.0.1 beta 1, they’ve added something that should eliminate the problems iOS 5.0 had with purging data — everything from Instapaper pages to flight charts.

It introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations.

Previously, developers who wanted to keep data cached on the iPhone or iPad but not have it backed up to iTunes — because it would create a long delay for their users — put them into temporary storage. With iCloud and iOS 5, however, Apple became much more aggressive about purging data from that temporary storage, leading to users starting apps only to find them empty and their stuff gone. This was especially vexing when on an airplane or otherwise off the data network and the content couldn’t just be re-downloaded.

While Apple doesn’t always seem to realize the ramifications of their changes, in this case at least they’re addressing it quickly. Hopefully this gives the best of both worlds — persistent, non-critical storage that’s there when you want it but doesn’t slow down or eat up storage for your backups.

Siri Outages Affecting iPhone 4S Owners

There have been widespread reports this afternoon that iPhone 4S owners are experiencing issues accessing Siri. Siri of course relies heavily on Apple’s servers for a variety of queries./> href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/20111103-175314.jpg" class="lightbox" >src="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/20111103-175314.jpg" alt="20111103-175314.jpg" class="alignnone size-full" />

So, how is Siri working for you or isn’t she? Siri is technically in beta, so a few bumps are to be expected.

Kevin Rose’s Oink app hits the App Store

Oink, a new app from Kevin Rose’s app development lab Milk, is now available for download in the App Store. Oink is a social recommendation and ranking app that takes a Foursquare-like check-in approach, letting users rate and rank the different items — instead of places — that they like.

The main idea is for users to recommend and rate products from different businesses so they can share with friends and spread the word about the things they enjoy. It seems like a really great idea, as long as enough of your friends are using the service, and gives a fresh approach to finding and enjoying items with like-minded people.

Oink is an easy way to rate and rank the things around you. Instead of just rating places, you rate the items inside. You could easily find the most popular items on a menu and see if a friend has tried anything there. Then if there’s something you like, it’s just a single press to rate it and share it with friends.

What you can do with Oink:

Oink is available on the iPhone and iPod touch for free.

New Nook Tablet gets leaked

New Nook Tablet gets leaked

Phil Nickinson over at Android Central got his hands on some pre-release info about Barnes and Noble’s next great iPad competitor, the Nook Tablet.

Let’s start with the obvious: Even in a photocopied black-and-white image, it looks like the Nook Color, no? And it retains many of the same features. Same retangular design, same rounded corners, same hook in the lower left. The display is unchanged as well — a 7-inch VividView IPS display at 1024×600 resolution and 169 pixels per inch. But inside. Man, this thing’s been beefed up.

He’s talking 1.2GHz TI OMAP, 16GB of storage, 4hrs. of video playback, 802.11 b/g/n, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, and while there’s no mention of Android, much like the soon-to-be-released — and no doubt aimed-squarely-at — Amazon Kindle Fire doesn’t do much to point out the little robot behind the curtains either. And while they don’t have Amazon’s online muscle, BN does have retail stores to show off their wares.

Hits November 16 for $249. Anyone getting that instead of a Kindle Fire? Instead of an iPad? No, seriously?

iPhone 4S Case Review: Proporta’s Aluminum Lined Leather Case

Over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll be taking comprehensive looks at a multitude of iPhone 4S compatible cases as well as any similar accessories. The first in our extensive lineup, is for Proporta’s onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=5140&t_mode=des');" target="_blank" href="http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=5140&t_mode=des">Aluminum Lined Leather Case. Compatible with the iPhone 4S and its predecessor alike, the case is a sure contender when it comes down to cases.

Let’s face it: the iPhone is easily one of the most elegant phones out there in the mobile phone market. Simple design, yes, but it also has a modern aesthetic that eye catching, to say the least. To preserve the phone’s beauty, you’re going to need the help of a case unless you’re the onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Hughes');" target="_blank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Hughes">Howard Hughes of the mobile phone industry, if you will. Proporta has multiple solutions, though your eyes may land on their Aluminum Lined Leather case for the iPhone 4S, and any hype that it receives it rightly deserved.

Sporting a slick, flip design, the case is lined with leather on the outside as well as in the inside, with the latter also having a mix of a soft cloth-like material. Rather than your normal, back-only cases, the Aluminum Lined Leather Cases pockets your phone inside kudos to its handy interior design while also protecting the screen with an additional layer/flap of protection that folds down, and magnetically snaps shut, over the front of the iPhone./> href="http://www.iphonealley.com/blog/iphone-4s-case-review-proportas-aluminum-lined-leather-case/attachment/proporta2" rel="attachment wp-att-22459">src="http://www.iphonealley.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/proporta2..png" alt="" title="proporta2." width="640" height="416" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-22459" />/> I really only had two minor gripes with the product: one being that it’s not the most comfortable for gamers such as me, because the additional flap only gets in the way, and two being that any scratches that happen on the exterior of the case are clearly evident. However, it does take some force, and I’d reckon something sharp, to scratch the leather.

Holding the case with your phone inside just feels “right”. Nothing is out of place nor uncomfortable (except for the previously mentioned issue that I, personally, encountered), and it doesn’t seem like it adds too much bulk or weight to the original specifications of the iPhone.

Rather than taking away from the aforementioned elegance of the iPhone, Proporta’s onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=5140&t_mode=des');" target="_blank" href="http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=5140&t_mode=des">Aluminum Lined Leather Case simply adds to it. While Proporta does give the case some love on their part with the included logos, they’ve been very humble instead of obtrusive with them, which is great considering some other case companies print their logos large intentionally. The finished product is a beautifully crafted case that suits any of the typical iPhone users. While it may not the most heavy-duty case out there on the market, the case certainly does what it needs to and is a great buy for $39.95.

Siri down for you?

Siri down?

We’re getting a bunch of emails and tweets asking if Siri is down for anyone else, so we’re guessing the answer to that is — yes, yes it is. It’s still working for some of us, mind you, and Siri has been up and down intermittently, and a often, since launch, but this once again seems to be more widespread than normal.

So you know the drill — let us know if Siri is down for you, and if so, where you are, how long it’s been down for, and when it goes back up.

Apple Files Complaint Over iPhone Related Domain Names

Apple has filed a complaint with the Word Intellectual Property Forum regarding seven domain names that include the term iPhone. The most notable of the group being iPhone4S.com. It seems the owners of said domain names are hiding behind a WHOIS privacy service, making it difficult for Apple to contact the owners. Making matters worse has been the misuse of the domain names, as they are all channeling to some type of porn.

As noted by AppleInsider, Apple has turned to WIPO in the past, allowing them to acquire ipods.com. In the past, Apple has shown they can be href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/everythingiphone-announces-rebranding-and-domain-name-change-to-everythingicafe/2007/11/02/">extremely litigious should a website include any of the their trademarked names within the domain name.

Twelve South’s Innovative PlugBug

For those of us with both a MacBook and iPhone, the new PlugBug charger from Twelve South makes incredible sense. The PlugBug is an accessory that attaches to a MacBook charger. According to the company, the USB portion outputs 10 watts and will result in faster charging of either an iPad or iPhone. It’s also one less outlet you are using and less to carry when traveling.

iPhone 4S: Is it just a stop-gap measure?

Back in the day when the PC was dominant and Microsoft was the most powerful tech-firm on the face of the earth, the company started a trend of releasing a new version of windows in fixed intervals (e.g. : windows 95, 96, 97, 98, etc.). On the plus side, Microsoft was able to boast that it was able to release a new version of windows every year. However, on the downside, as many people realised, the quality of the software was severely compromised due to the extreme pressure to release a new OS each year. Now, when you think about the release of the iPhone 4S, you cannot but help think Apple has caught the mobile version of this bug. Certainly, both industries are different and the mobile Industry has benefited from rapidly improving technology. Yet, the question lingers, is Apple compromising quality to achieve its targets?

While at first glance, we would be tempted to answer yes, but the reality is that Apple strategy is not entirely flawed. The mobile industry is notoriously cutthroat, and if Apple goes to wait for 12+ months (16, in the case of the iPhone 4S), then it would be hopelessly outclassed in the short-term. The reason for the release of the iPhone 4S is abundantly clear, it is a stop-gap measure that gives Apple enough time to focus on the iPhone 5 while dangling some really appealing features to retain the attention of the iPhone fanatics.

So where did Apple go wrong? Perhaps it is a victim of its own success. Now that the focus on mobile technology is slowly shifting from hardware to software, it is time Apple perhaps modified it iPhone cycle. The most realistic option would be to release a device every 6-8 months. This would give it enough time to breathe while retaining a degree of exclusivity. More importantly, the chances of lowered expectations would be lower.

Generally Positive Response for iOS 5 Update

All those who did not get their hands on the new iPhone 4S, had to manually download the iOS 5 update. Now we all remember how the iOS 4 update went, but when comparing the two situations, it now abundantly clear that this time’s experience was infinitely better. As soon as the update was made available, Apple’s servers crashed for a while due to the unexpected volume of downloads. However, when the confusions cleared it was possible to finally focus on the performance of the new updates and fortunately it did not disappoint; well at-least not everyone.

Even iPhone 3GS users were not faced with unexpected updated horrors and the performance was less taxing on older models in general. Certainly, there were problems in the initial stages, with some consumers bringing up complaints including a surge in the battery usage, no Siri, slower response and the disappearance of certain app. The majority, it seems, however, were quite pleased indeed. The iOS 5 update brings a host of new features that promise to enhance iPhone experience with updates to the camera interface, notifications, a new system of reminders, photo stream, etc. This is ultimately a good thing for Apple which has lately been accused of deliberately abandoning users of the older iPhone models. As noted earlier, hardware manufactures in general are more inclined to release updates focused on the latest generation of their products since they don’t really make  a lot of money from the older models.

The fact that Apple has managed to launch a stunning update that goes easy on the older models of the iPhone is a remarkable thing. However, owners of the older iPhone models should keep in mind that Apple will not be able to accommodate older models of the iPhone forever. As the next generation iPhone hits the market, Apple will be more focused on accommodating the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5.

Rumor: Apple To Overhaul iPad, iMac, iPhone, MacBook Air in 2012

According to a report in href="http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20111102PD226.html">DigiTimes, Apple is planning to overhaul several of their product lines including the iPad, iMac, iPhone and MacBook Air. This major overhaul is expected in 2012 according to upstream supply chain sources.

href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/salt-shakers-ck-0806-x.jpg" class="lightbox" >src="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/salt-shakers-ck-0806-x.jpg" alt="DigiTimes rumor" title="salt-shakers-ck-0806-x" width="420" height="420" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-24992" />

DigiTimes track record of late is spotty at best. They also claim Apple has requested flat panel modules for two iPad prototypes codenamed J1 and J2.

Just hours later, href="http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20111102PD224.html">DigiTimes out-rumored their own rumor, by reporting that an updated iPad will launch in March 2012. Their sources indicate the iPad launching in March will not be the iPad 3, which will be launching in the third quarter of 2012 at the earliest.

DigiTimes has been incredibly incorrect over the past few months, so grab your salt shakers with extreme prejudice.

Redsn0w still offers jailbreak solution for iOS 5.01 beta [Updated]

According to Dev Team member MuscleNerd, the current version of Redsn0w can still jailbreak the beta of iOS 5.01. In case you missed the news, Apple released a beta of iOS 5.01 to developers yesterday to address various bug fixes; notably battery life. The good news is that you can still jailbreak it using Redsn0w. If you have decided that you can’t suffer the iOS 5 bugs any longer but don’t want to forfeit your jailbreak either, you are safe to proceed.

Devs trying today’s 5.0.1 beta can JB with existing redsn0w (but select the 5.0 IPSW thru GUI or command line)

The jailbreak remains a tethered solution for now and does not work with the iPhone 4S or the iPad 2.

Update: Redsn0w has now been updated to version 0.9.9b8 and it now supports iOS beta 5.0.1. There is no need to use the iOS 5.0 IPSW anymore!

Jawbone Up available on Sunday, iPhone fitness accessory to help you live healthier [video]

The highly anticipated iPhone fitness accessory, Jawbone Up, will be available this Sunday. A colorful wrist band with built in sensors and a vibration motor, Jawbone Up is designed to track your eating, sleeping and exercise patterns.

Up is a tool designed to improve your lifestyle and it is designed to work with the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch via an app that can retrieve the information recorded from the wrist band; strangely via the 3.5mm headset jack. The app can then tell you a plethora or information and help you move more, sleep better and eat smarter.

  • Use the UP wristband and iPhone app to track your steps, distance, calories burned, pace, intensity level, active vs inactive time, GPS routes and more.

  • Program your UP wristband to vibrate on your wrist to remind you to move when you’ve been inactive for too long. You control the interval and timeframe.

  • Put your wristband in sleep mode to automatically track your hours slept, deep vs. light sleep, awake time and overall sleep quality.

  • Replace your noisy alarm clock with UP’s silent Smart Alarm; it vibrates on your wrist and intelligently wakes you up at the ideal moment in your natural sleep cycle just before your desired wake time.

  • Say hello to your new food journal. It’s as easy snapping a photo and responding to prompts about how each meal makes you feel.

  • UP gets to know you by asking how you feel after each meal. Over time, you can use your responses to help discover which foods make you feel your best.

Up is more than just an accessory and app, it also offers a social network where you can join challenges or set up your own. You can challenge friends to motivate them and yourself to new levels of fitness and health.

The Jawbone Up will be available from Sunday November 6 online as well as in Apple Stores, Target, AT&T and Best Buy. The Jawbone Up Band comes in three sizes and will cost $99. The app is available as a free download.

App Store still more gamble than gold

App Store still more gamble than gold

Chris Stevens at Fast Company has written about the harrowing ordeal of being a small time developer in the big time App Store. It’s nothing new, but it’s something that hasn’t been in the headlines for a while.

It’s this label “gold rush” that has been most often applied to the App Store. The potential for success, and risk of failure, is so great that in many ways the App Store has provoked a gold rush among developers. Although the successes are spectacular, the failures are apocalyptic. The mainstream press focuses on the glorious few and gives very little attention to the money being lost on the App Store–a problem compounded by the embarrassed silence of those struggling to turn a profit on their work. In a climate where approximately 540 apps are submitted for review every day, it’s easy to see why the Appillionaires are an exclusive and rare breed.

Knowing to get in on the ground floor was probably the first big gamble. Now it’s trying to get noticed among hundreds of thousands of other apps and dozens of existing, entrenched competitors. Can you just make a better looking Twitter client, a more adorable and addictive casual game, or an easier way to share photos with filters and bank on success, or will there always be the element of a crap shoot?

Years ago we talked about the idea of a premium App Store to encourage big companies and game houses to invest in iOS and get higher prices in return, but what about the small, indie developers, the next great innovators in the making? Could Apple revamp the App Store format to give them a better chance as well?

Siri, How Much Data Are You Using?

With unlimited data plans being phased out by all of the US carriers, the amount of data you utilize on your iPhone could result in an unwanted surcharge on your monthly wireless bill. Apple’s new personal assistant Siri regularly incurs data usage, but just how much? href="http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2011/11/how-data-heavy-is-siri-on-an-iphone-4s-ars-investigates.ars">ArsTechnica took a comprehensive look at what toll Siri takes on your monthly data usage.

href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/siri_hero.jpg" class="lightbox" >class="alignnone size-full wp-image-24097" title="siri_hero" src="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/siri_hero.jpg" alt="" width="355" height="407" />

They performed 11 queries through Siri and watched data usage like a hawk. Their methodology included local tasks such as setting reminders and tasks that require connecting to the Internet. What’s interesting is the range in data usage for each query, ranging from 23KB to 187KB. They estimate that an average user that utilizes Siri for a similar amount of queries would use 20MB of data. There is a wide variance based upon the user and questions asked, so this number would likely change. Still, this is a great analysis by Ars and something to be aware when utilizing Siri.

If you are on a capped data plan, I can highly recommend grabbing the very excellent href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dataman-pro-real-time-data/id433617332?mt=8">DataMan Pro. It offers a wide array of data tracking and alerts. You can program four levels of usage thresholds and three data allowances suitable to your data plan.

With Siri still in beta, you have to wonder if improvements in the service will yield faster results and less of an impact on data usage.

AT&T Moving iPhone 4S Upgrade Eligibility Dates Up

According to href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/threads/check-your-at-t-upgrade-eligibility-date.81612/">several href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/threads/check-your-at-t-upgrade-eligibility-date.81612/#post-882569">reports in our href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum">iPhone forums, AT&T is moving upgrade eligibility dates for customers whose eligibility was during November. If a customer was previously eligible for an upgrade on November 25th, AT&T has moved their upgrade to November 1st. Personally, I’ve seen my eligibility get bumped up from November 9th. It’s not clear if these moves are only for master accounts or if they also affect sub-accounts on FamilyTalk plans. These upgrades make a tremendous difference in the cost of the iPhone 4S, with prices moving from $399/16GB, $499/32GB ,$599/64GB to $199/16GB, $299/32GB, $399/64GB.

Those of you with upgrade eligibility in November should check either AT&T or the Apple Store, if you were waiting on the additional subsidy. AT&T currently has stock of the black iPhone 4S in all storage capacities. Apple also offers the option at 9PM each night to reserve an iPhone 4S in your area. Those ordering from Apple for delivery are seeing 1-2 weeks for delivery, with AT&T showing 21-28 days out of stock models including any of the white iPhone 4S models.

Native Gmail App for iPhone, iPad Available Now

We had heard yesterday from href="http://parislemon.com/post/12181169812/incoming-a-native-gmail-iphone-app-finally">MG Seigler that Google was anticipating the green light on a native href="http://itunes.apple.com/app/gmail/id422689480?mt=8">Gmail app for the iPhone and iPad. Those rumors ring true today, with Google announcing the immediate availability of Gmail for iPhone and iPad. The native email client is available now at the attractive price of free.

UPDATE: href="http://twitter.com/#!/gmail/status/131794997308690434">Google has pulled the app due to a bug with notifications.

href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/IMG_0073.jpg" class="lightbox" >class="alignnone size-full wp-image-24961" title="IMG_0073" src="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/IMG_0073.jpg" alt="Gmail for iPhone, iPad" width="600" height="450" />

The iPad version uses panes, similar to what we have seen in the recent Facebook for iPad app. It offers Gmail features like starring, labels, priority inbox and more. The initial login is a bit odd, as the app brings to you a web view of the Gmail login. Almost as if you were going backwards and this native Gmail app wasn’t a reality. In many ways, it’s not what many had hoped for, as it appears the Gmail app is nothing more than a web view. You can href="http://itunes.apple.com/app/gmail/id422689480?mt=8">download it now in the App Store. If you switch back to the default Mail app, we won’t blame you.

Redsn0w still offers jailbreak solution for iOS 5.01 beta

Why Google’s Native Gmail for iPhone App Was Half-Assed

It’s been three long years waiting for a href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/native-gmail-app-for-iphone-ipad-available-now/2011/11/02/">native Gmail client for the iPhone. When news broke yesterday that it was about to become a reality, you could almost hear the sound of nerds dancing in the street. If you are a heavy Gmail user like myself, the promise of a native Gmail client was music to your ears. Up until now, the best mobile Gmail experience was only available on Android. If you wanted access to Gmail features on your iPhone, you needed to access the mobile view using Safari and we all know that web apps are so 2007. I’d rather forgo using Gmail features then use a web app and up until this point, I have. I had hoped that would change with the release of the Gmail for iPhone app. Finally, a native Gmail experience on the iPhone and iPad. Three years in the making and finally getting past the App Store approval process, the Gmail app is finally available (href="http://itunes.apple.com/app/gmail/id422689480?mt=8">App Store link). A poorly designed mess, that is nothing more than a glorified web view. It begs the question, why did Google spend three years to deliver a half-assed Gmail app?

href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/IMG_0072.jpg" class="lightbox" >class="alignnone size-full wp-image-24962" title="IMG_0072" src="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/IMG_0072.jpg" alt="" width="480" height="360" />

First the good news, this app does support notifications. That’s about where the good news starts and ends. When you first open up the app, you are quickly greeted with the familiar Gmail login as if you were logging in from Safari. Here’s where things go terribly wrong. This native app is nothing more then a web view of your email and not a very attractive one at that. Sure you can access features like starring and labels, but this is not the inbox or UI that you want to be staring at throughout your work day. Like many, I had hopes that the Gmail app would be just like Apple’s Mail app, but with Gmail features. Not a crazy request, but it’s not even close.

class="wp-caption-text">Google's Ice Cream Sandwich will still offer the best mobile Gmail experience

So why has Google completely punted their Gmail app? Next to Maps, Gmail is the crowned jewel among Google services. There are no shortage of Gmail users, myself included. Why would Google provide Apple with the best Gmail user experience, thus removing another reason to move to or stick with Android. If today’s release provided a Gmail experience on-par with Ice Cream Sandwich (Google’s Android 4.0), then it’s one less objection to moving to iOS. If you are a heavy Gmail user, todays release of Gmail for iPhone might have created a reason for some Android users to jump ship and pick up an iPhone 4S. While there are no shortage of compelling reasons to switch to iOS, today’s release of a native Gmail app is not one of them.

Apple Confirms iOS 5 Battery Issues, Software Fix Coming

Plenty has been made about the battery issues plaguing the iPhone 4S. Apple confirmed that battery issues in a statement to href="http://www.loopinsight.com/2011/11/02/apple-confirms-battery-life-issues-in-ios-5/">Jim Dalrymple at The Loop.

href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/iphone-3gs-screengrab-low-battery-1802891.jpg" class="lightbox" >class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16215" title="iphone-3gs-screengrab-low-battery-1802891" src="http://www.everythingicafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/iphone-3gs-screengrab-low-battery-1802891.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="200" />

“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices. We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”

The odd thing about this battery issue is that it appears to affect iPhone 4S owners more so than iPhone 4 owners. There have been no shortage of href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/threads/battery-draining-with-everything-off.80727/">complaints in our forums and elsewhere. A previous report from The Guardian indicated that href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/report-apple-engineers-contacting-iphone-4s-owners-regarding-poor-battery-life/2011/10/28/">Apple engineers had been reaching out to customers to acquire data in order to solve the problem.

Apple releases iTunes 10.5.1 beta 2 to developers, iTunes Match tests ongoing, now on Apple TV

Apple releases iTunes 10.5.2 beta to developers, iTunes Match tests ongoing, now on Apple TV

Following up on the beta release of iOS 5.0.1 for developers, Apple has also released iTunes 10.5.1 beta 2, replacing the now timed-out iTunes 10.5.1 beta 1 and allowing for continued testing of iTunes Match.

The Loop‘s Jim Dalrymple also noticed iTunes Match is now up and running on Apple TV.

While Apple missed their previously stated goal of releasing iTunes Match in September, but since it’s still in beta, it looks like they’d rather take the time to get it right, rather than just right now.

Rumor: Apple to redesign iPad, iPhone, MacBook Air, and iMac next year?

Rumor: Apple to redesign iPad, iPhone, MacBook Air, and iMac next year?

Randomly accurate rumor site Digitimes has pair of stories up saying that Apple may be looking to re-design the iPad, iPhone, MacBook Air, and imac next year. This according to “upstream supply chain” sources.

Apple has asked makers in the supply chain to develop flat panel modules and LED light bars for two iPad prototypes, codenamed J1 and J2, the sources revealed.

Stranger still:

Apple’s new generation iPad will enter mass production soon with the launch set for March 2012, according to sources from the upstream supply chain; however, the sources revealed that internally Apple does not view the new iPad product as iPad 3, but rather an upgraded iPad 2 and the real iPad 3 will not be launched until the third quarter of 2012 at the earliest.

iPad 3 likely will ship when Apple can make Retina display panels cheaply enough, at high enough yield rates, to make sense.
