C Spire Wireless To Also Get iPhone 4S

Wait, who? C Spire Wireless, formerly known as Cellular South, has today announced that they’ll also be getting the iPhone 4S. In a remarkably brief press release, they simply said:

C Spire Wireless announced today that it will launch iPhone 4S, the most amazing iPhone yet, in the U.S. in the coming weeks.

For further information or to register interest, please visit www.cspire.com/iphone.  For more information on iPhone 4S, please visit www.apple.com/iphone.

Pre-registration begins today on their iPhone landing page, and the CDMA-based network has some 875,000 subscribers across Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia.

We assume that like every other carrier, it’ll cost $199 and up on contract.

The fact that such a small carrier can score the iPhone 4S has got me thinking about why T-Mobile doesn’t have it yet. You’ll notice that all of the non-AT&T carriers that have the iPhone are CDMA: Verizon, Sprint and C Spire. I wonder if AT&T doesn’t still have some sort of GSM exclusivity in the USA, preventing Apple and T-Mobile from forming a deal.
