According to MG Siegler, sources indicate that Apple is on the verge of approving a native Gmail app. The current mobile version of Gmail works perfectly fine, but the app will usher in support for notifications. If you are a heavy Gmail user, then there are some advantages to using Android, with their stellar Gmail supported email client. This move makes perfect sense for Apple. While there are certainly reasons why some users might prefer Android, a native Gmail client can be removed from that list.

If this report rings true, the native Gmail iPhone app will offer support for Priority Inbox, one-click starring of messages and possibly other new features. This will all come at the price of free.
