Friday saw the release of iOS 5 beta 2 to those with developer accounts, and given that nobody bothers with NDAs anyway, we’re already seeing all the cool new features — chief among them some pretty hefty wireless capabilities.
Wireless syncing with iTunes is now up and running, minor OS updates can now get sent out over 3G and you can now enter recovery mode without being attached to a computer. This latter development could end up being a major boon for jailbreakers — the need to tether and enter recovery mode for certain jailbreaks could potentially be circumvented through this new ability.
What else is in the new edition? Better support for Chinese mail servers. iMessage only works between beta 2 users, but is much faster. The OS update also killed off a non-jailbreak, SIM-based unlock that was in the works.
The notification/lock screen has received an overhaul, making individual alerts much larger and web apps now get native scrolling.
Oh, and that video at the top? That’s the new boot animation.
