According to analytics group Asymco is stating that iOS apps have now finally overtaken iTunes music in sales numbers. It took iTunes music six years and 10 months to hit the 15 billion downloads mark, which apps hit in exactly three years — less than half that time.
Currently, app download rates are around 31 million apps per month — yes, more than a million a day globally — and music is around 12 million per month.
This crossover occurred later than was originally expected by Asymco, who thought it would happen at the end of 2010, due to an unexpected surge in popularity of music downloads. Beatles effect maybe?
