Kid With Leukemia Gets Wish To Make iOS Game

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the app store, you may have seen a title called Allied Star Police — a free title made by PopCap games, but with an amazing back story. ASP was the wish of leukemia sufferer Owain Weinert, a nine-year old who told the Make-A-Wish foundation he wanted to make an iPhone game. PopCap stepped up to the plate with their offshoot studio 4th & Battery, and with Owain’s directions, they made ASP. This wasn’t a slapdash effort, but a full 18 month push to get a major title out the door.

The game is a mix of tower defense, RTS, and side-scroller shooters, and so far has gained great reviews on the App Store. Plus, it’s free — but if you want to give some money to Make-A-Wish so they can keep doing projects like this, there’s a link on the official website.
