According to MacRumors, Apple is prepping a new service called Sherwood, which will allow you to buy products online, and then pick them up in store. Every item available online, including fully customizes Macs, engraved iPods and accessories can be bought online, and then you can just pop down to your local Apple store and grab them.
Many of the items will be available for same day purchase, requiring just identification and proof of purchase in order to access. Some orders with harder to find parts and customization may take a couple of days to ship to the store.
The other advantage to this system is the ability to nominate someone else to go and pick it up for you, a boon for those who work bizarre hours and can’t afford to sit by the door all day waiting for Fedex to drop things off.
