Applications to Take Advantage of the iPhone 4S’ Improved Camera

With the significant increase in the performance/specifications of the iPhone 4S’ camera, which I recently href="http://www.iphonealley.com/blog/pictures-taken-from-my-iphone-4s-outstanding-to-say-the-least">confirmed to be a huge selling point for the new handset, many photography buffs are probably skewering the App Store in search of decent applications to capitalize on the improved camera.id="more-22472"> Below, we highlight the top applications that will effectively make use of the astounding capabilities of the iPhone 4S camera.

target="_blank" href="http://www.iphonealley.com/blog/applications-to-take-advantage-of-the-iphone-4s-improved-camera/attachment/photosynth" rel="attachment wp-att-22534">src="http://www.iphonealley.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/photosynth.png" alt="" title="photosynth" width="65" height="65" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-22534" />onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/itunes.apple.com/us/app/photosynth/id430065256?mt=8');" href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photosynth/id430065256?mt=8">Photosynth [Free]/> Panoramic applications have become quite popular throughout the existence of the App Store, so here’s one application that will easily allow you to capture a complete photo of scenery. Since the iPhone’s camera is limited to only a certain amount of space, Photosynth by Microsoft will aid in creating the best panoramic images to accompany your vacation memories. By taking multiple photos of your desired scenery, at different positions, the application will allow you stitch them together and will also give you the option to send/save the pictures right from within the application. Considering the application is completely free, it’s a great steal – especially if you’ve got an iPhone 4S and can hand-in-hand make use of the Photosynth.

target="_blank" href="http://www.iphonealley.com/blog/applications-to-take-advantage-of-the-iphone-4s-improved-camera/attachment/pano" rel="attachment wp-att-22535">src="http://www.iphonealley.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/pano.png" alt="" title="pano" width="65" height="65" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-22535" />onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/itunes.apple.com/us/app/id293709029');" href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id293709029">Pano [$1.99]/> For those of us iOS device users who prefer variety, it’s good to have multiple panoramic applications on your phone. Pano is yet another helpful application from Debacle Software that will effectively capture panoramic scenery. Pano allows you to do what you’d normally need to do, pretty simply, but also has a transparent guide whilst taking photos to help you align your pictures accurately. What sets is behind, however, is the fact that it’s only limited to stitching pictures horizontally rather than Photosynth which is capable of expanding photos vertically and horizontally. I know from experience that the application is constantly backed by updates and has a large user fanbase, so if that is more enticing to you, then by all means get Pano.

Available for free, SynthCam promises to reduce the graininess of your photos and improve the quality. Not that the iPhone 4S’ camera even needs improvement, but the application does does still have a noticeable effect. Speaking from experience, though, I’d say it’s best used with the iPod Touch 4th generation’s horrible camera. To use the application, you’ll press the record button and will pan slowly to the left, right, up and down just a bit – after 10-15 seconds, you should press the pause button and PhotoSynth will utilize all that it’s seen to make a great looking picture. The problem? Obviously, the application is only limited to still, inanimate objects or it’ll take blurry photos. Regardless, it’s a great utility to pick up considering it’s completely free.

Yeah? Well True HDR effectively gets rid of those situations simply with the input of two pictures of the same thing – it’ll take the best of both worlds and create a separate picture to, most of the time, get rid of anything unattractive in an otherwise perfect picture.

target="_blank" href="http://www.iphonealley.com/blog/applications-to-take-advantage-of-the-iphone-4s-improved-camera/attachment/018161" rel="attachment wp-att-22538">src="http://www.iphonealley.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/018161.png" alt="" title="018161" width="65" height="65" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-22538" />onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/itunes.apple.com/us/app/picmix/id324018161?mt=8');" href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/picmix/id324018161?mt=8">PicMix [$0.99]/> Though it can get to be pretty complex, and the UI isn’t the most user-friendly, this is absolutely my favorite application when it comes to creating collages. You’re able to layer pictures wherever desired, you’re able to uniquely blend photos together, you can mess around with various tools and can also adjust transparency. This app does have a free version, but the complete package is simply awing.

target="_blank" href="http://www.iphonealley.com/blog/applications-to-take-advantage-of-the-iphone-4s-improved-camera/attachment/photowall" rel="attachment wp-att-22539">src="http://www.iphonealley.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/photowall.png" alt="" title="photowall" width="65" height="65" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-22539" />onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/itunes.apple.com/app/photo-wall-pro-collage-app/id356206839?mt=8');" href="http://itunes.apple.com/app/photo-wall-pro-collage-app/id356206839?mt=8">Photo Wall – Pro Collage App [$2.99]/> It’s a bit on the pricey side, but it’s totally worth it. In some cases even better than PicMix, Photo Wall is a great, user-friendly application that can make a variety of aesthetically-pleasing collages. Whether it be creating holiday cards, collages as a hobby or any other use, Photo Wall makes it easy by providing the abilities to change the background, layers photos, add text, adjust transparency as needed and a whole lot more. Even though it’s $2.99, it’s not a bad way to compile a few photos.

There are of course other options available for the categories listed above, but these are the select few that I find myself using repeatedly and leaving satisfied with without fail. Oh, and you should try applications from all three of the above categories together – improved panoramic photos go well with collages!
