Samsung Galaxy S II Beats iPhone 4S in Drop Test

I love these scientific drop tests, and so does onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.squaretrade.com/');" target="_blank" href="http://www.squaretrade.com/">Square Trade. The Square Trade team tested the iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S II’s durability by dropping them onto a concrete sidewalk.

The iPhone 4S didn’t do very well. The back panel cracked during the waste high test, but the front panel survived. It also survived the shoulder high fall, but failed miserably when dropped face first. The entire display cracked rendering the phone pretty useless.

The Samsung Galaxy S II survived all three tests. Its Gorilla Glass never broke even after being dropped face down. The results aren’t that surprising since the iPhone 4 isn’t known for its durability, and since the Galaxy II is mostly made of plastic.

With the wide variety of iPhone cases and onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.worthavegroup.com');" target="_blank" title="insurance" href="http://www.worthavegroup.com">insurance plans available drop tests don’t mean much. I guess accidents do happen, but how many times have you dropped your iPhone straight down on its face? These type of videos are fun to watch and a reminder to protect your device, but not any indication of what phone is better.

You can check out Square Trade’s onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.youtube.com/watch?v=elKxgsrJFhw&feature=player_embedded');" target="_blank" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elKxgsrJFhw&feature=player_embedded">video here. I didn’t look, but I’m sure there are many more iPhone 4S drop tests floating around.
