We’ve all heard the stories about Android gobbling up iOS’s marketshare like nobody’s business, but a href="http://www.netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=9&qpcustomb=1">new report from Netmarketshare paints a very different picture. What’s interesting is that this is both iPhone and iPad, covering all sorts of mobile data for cellphones and tablets. The tablet sphere is still one where the iPad is controlling far more marketshare than smartphones, so this doubtless helps bump the numbers a little.
From November 2010 to September of 2011, iOS moved up from 46.06% to 54.65%, Android climbed from 10.27% to 16.26% — that’s actually a bigger improvement for iOS than it is for Android. The big loser on this research is Java, with Symbian dropping notably and Blackberry slightly.
