DigiTimes: iPad 3 and iPhone 5 In September

This rumor comes via the way of DigiTimes, so it requires great big pieces of salt, as they’re often wrong. Really often wrong. Anyway, according to their supply chain sources, material preparation has begun for the iPhone 5 and iPad 3, both set to launch in October:

Taiwan-based companies included in the supply chain for iPhone 5 and iPad 3 have begun to prepare materials for the production of the two devices, which are likely to make their debuts in September and to hit the market in October, according to industry sources.

We’ve seen rumors about another iPad this year before, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’m pretty sure that it wouldn’t be a full-out replacement for the iPad 2, because the 2 is barely into its product cycle. Rather, I have a feeling that if Apple was to produce another iPad this year it’d be to differentiate the product line like they did with the iPod — probably producing either a very cheap version, or a much more high-end one.
