Late last week, we heard a rumor that Apple href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/apple-eyeing-up-streaming-media-says-wsj/2011/08/26/">might be eying up streaming media, and in an interesting twist over the weekend, href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/08/26/99_cent_tv_show_rentals_quietly_removed_from_apple_tv_itunes.html">they killed off $0.99 TV rentals. What was originally one of the big selling points of the AppleTV has now gone the way of the dodos, and you can no longer rent a single episode of a TV show via iTunes or AppleTV for a buck.

Apple spokesperson Tom Neumayr href="http://allthingsd.com/20110826/apple-pulls-the-plug-on-tv-rentals/">released a statement to AllThingsD saying:

“iTunes customers have shown they overwhelmingly prefer buying TV shows. iTunes in the Cloud lets customers download and watch their past TV purchases from their iOS devices, Apple TV, Mac or PC allowing them to enjoy their programming whenever and however they choose.”

Movie rentals remain unaffected.
