DigiTimes has an incredibly spotty track record with getting rumors right, but their newest news report is a little interesting. They’re claiming that the href="http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20110829PD201.html">iPhone 5 will have a less than 4-inch screen, and a metal rear.
Despite rumors about iPhone 5 featuring a 4.2-inch panel circulating within the IT market for a while, following a leak from Apple’s website in Switzerland in early August, sources from upstream panel suppliers have recently revealed that the iPhone 5′s panel size will still be less than 4-inch.
In addition, iPhone 5′s back design will be changed to a metal chassis instead of reinforced-glasses.

/> The sources added that the iPhone 5 will adopt a 3.5- to 3.7-inch panel with a design to allow the bezel of the panel to become thinner and make the screen look larger.
The funny thing? That Swiss leak they mention we didn’t report on because it was an obvious fake. A screen size increase from 3.5 to 3.7 inches would be a minuscule increase, and one that wouldn’t provide much of a different user experience than the iPhone 4.
It’s unusual that this close to the official announcement (pegged for next month), we still have a very vague idea of what this iPhone will look like.
