Condé Nast Sees 268% Increase Thanks To Newsstand

Despite essentially being just a glorified shortcut, Newsstand in iOS 5 seems to have become a boon for the publishing industry. It’s doing the job of showing users exactly where to go in order to see magazine subscriptions, and has brought about a major uptick in sales. href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/10/26/newsstand_app_brings_cond_nast_268_boom_in_subscription_sales_on_ipad.html">Condé Nast has apparently seen a 268% leap in subscriptions since Newsstand launched and single issue sales are up 142% compared to the eight weeks before launch.

“We couldn’t be happier,” said Executive Vice President Monica Ray. “It’s clear that the focused attention and greater discoverability Newsstand provides our brands has been embraced by the consumer. While we recognize the spike in sales is in part fueled by the attention the launch received, we are very optimistic that we will see a consistently higher level of growth going forward than we did prior to the app’s introduction.”

What remains to be seen is if this boost carries through in the months to come, or if this is just because the feature is shiny and new, and will eventually fall by the wayside. Condé Nast currently has nine titles available on the iPad: AllureBrides GlamourSelfGQGolf DigestThe New YorkerVanity Fair and Wired, and three more in the works: Condé Nast TravelerBon Appétit and Vogue.
