Sony Pics Up Rights To Steve Jobs Biopic

With speed so fast it’s bordering on offensive, Sony has reportedly scooped up the rights to a Steve Jobs biopic. The rights are based on the upcoming biography of the man by Walter Isaacson. The report over at Deadline thinks it a good match, saying “the studio seems a good fit for the book, having boiled business books into compelling dramas with both the Oscar-nominated The Social Network and Moneyball. ”

Jobs has been portrayed in movies before, perhaps most famously in The Pirates of Silicon Valley, which was made before Apple’s huge resurgence, but after Jobs’ return to the company.

I’ll admit that The Social Network was a great movie, and I’d love to see a Jobs biopic that manages to show him with both his greatness and his myriad of flaws, but snapping up the rights this soon after his death seems morbid and predatory.
