Fake Chinese Apple Stores Shut Down

Remember those href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/check-out-this-incredible-fake-apple-store-from-china/2011/07/20/">awesomely fake Chinese Apple stores from last week? It seems that word got around, and the city hashref="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-07-25/china-finds-five-unauthorized-apple-stores-in-kunming-city-shuts-two.html"> shut down at least two of the five stores in Kunming. While they haven’t been directly targeted for ripping off Apple’s style, instead the authorities say that the stores were operating without a business license.

The city claims that Apple didn’t contact them, but that they did this under their own steam, though it’s not hard to imagine that there may have been some pressure from outside sources on this one.

With so few official Apple Stores in China, it’s not surprising that resellers would pop up in other cities, with varying degrees of officialness.
