iPhone Nano To Launch This September?

Seth Weintraub of 9to5 Mac has received information from a source that Apple will be releasing two iPhones this Fall — the expected followup to the iPhone 4, and a low-end model to challenge the cheap Android handsets. Will this be the arrival of the iPhone Nano? The existence of a low-end, affordable and possibly unlocked iPhone has been the subject of some pretty serious discussion over the past couple of weeks, but Weintraub puts his own spin on things.

He believes that rather than a new piece of hardware arriving and the iPhone 4 being reduced to second rate, a new, cheap, small phone will be produced. One possible way of doing this would be to install cellphone parts into the existing iPod Touch hardware he suggests.

Right now we’re hearing a flurry of ideas about Apple intentionally splitting their iOS lines like they did with the iPod years ago. Yesterday the big rumors was of a new, pro-level iPad 2 HD.
