Amazon Skirts Apple’s Restrictions With Awesome Kindle Cloud Reader

Apple’s view on apps has always been “if you don’t like the App Store rules, make a web app!”, and Amazon has done just that. Not willing to fork over 30% of their revenue through Apple’s control of in app purchases, they have just rolled out a web app — the href="https://read.amazon.com/">Kindle Cloud Reader.

It’s a web app that will work through Chrome or Safari, and has been optimized for Mobile Safari, making it perfect to use on the iPad.

And yes, it does support offline reading, so you can plow through the most recent Hunger Games novel while at 30,000 feet.

Caveats: it’s not on the iPhone yet, and you’re still limited to a finite number of devices, and it seems that having the iPad app and the Cloud app reading your book each counts as a device. Lame!
