One of the potential uses for the iPad I personally was most excited for wat the idea of textbooks. Even though I’m long out of university, I remember paying a fortune for those damned things, and lugging them everywhere. There been a lot of rumor over the last couple of years about href="http://www.everythingicafe.com/tag/textbooks/">textbooks shifting to the tablet, but so far the results have been lackluster to say the least.
Hopefully that is set to change, thanks to a company called href="http://kno.com/">Kno. Business Insider has a look at href="http://www.businessinsider.com/kno-screen-shots-2011-8?op=1">their moves to digitize textbooks, and they’re doing the most important thing for many students: marking the books down to a human price:
Kno says it has 100,000 textbooks in its system and it sells books at a 30-50% discount from physical copies. It offers rentals — 180 days with the book — for 50% off the cover price.
Here’s hoping this is the first step to getting decent digital textbook content onto the iPad, and out of paper.
