This is coming in at the literal 11th hour, but This Is My Next’s Joshua Topolsky (late of Engadget), has posted a major rumor. His sources tell him that Apple is introducing their own texting network, which will be free for iOS users. If correct, any texts between iOS users will skip the carrier — saving you some money — and travel for free. This would also be a major hit against BlackBerry and BBM — their IM client which retains many loyal users.
He also claims that you’ll be able to swipe up from the homescreen for notifications and widgets, and that some form of notifications will be on the lock screen.
Very interesting.
